That shit is SOP. Drop guns and drop knives. The toy gun things is even more sinister because you gotta think they’re mostly planting those on kids. The veteran dealers are probably armed anyway and finding a toy gun on random adult citizen is likely to raise a lot of questions.

You know what gets me? That whole “A Few Bad Apples” defense? It forgets the next like “A few bad apples... spoil the whole bunch.”. These departments, a LOT of departments, need to have a whole house cleaning, down to the fucking floor boards. Rip out all the training material. Rip out the senior officers. Start it

Chicago cops buy real guns to plant on suspects to justify shootings, arrest persons they want to arrest, etc. So, this is hardly surprising.

Or maybe Baltimore is indicative of police departments all over the country.

Well this is a great way to kick off Black History Month. Oh remember if you don’t support the cops you hate law enforcement and don’t love America but if you trash The FBI and insult the wife of the No. 2 at the agency that is presidential.

I mean, that’s another issue entirely, which has everything to do with how much money we spend at the box office (though I’m glad she admitted it).

There is something kind of inherently nefarious about any career where your wages go up, not necessarily with talent or experience (or actual effort put in), but with some nebulous formula related to your popularity and your agents ability to negotiate.

If you want someone to believe you: don’t say - do. Don’t expect anything, don’t ask for anything. Just do the right thing. Everything else goes forward from there.

Sharing my thoughts as a (white) manager who always makes a concerted effort to hire POC and women. Recognizing my privilege, and using it to try and effect change isn’t “mercy.” My hope is that those POC and women will rise through the ranks of the organization, and be in a better position, over time to make similar

If we white people are responsible for putting minoritized people in this situation, isn’t it also our responsibility to fix it? I acknowledge that the fix should come from studio execs not devaluing people because of skin color and gender, but that seems like it is going to be a long fight. Shouldn’t us white people

Look at this way, the reason everyone on Friends made the same amount of money and so MUCH money is because they negotiated their contracts as a team. That’s what needs to happen: If you want “us” you pay us this much. Jessica C. didn’t rescue her, they’re friends, they partnered and backed each other up.

“really, you speak a lot about equal pay but were unaware that racism might play a part in Hollywood like everywhere else on Earth?”

The thing about the magazine cover is that Chastain was probably contractually obligated to appear on that cover: when an actor signs on to do a movie, they also sign on to do publicity for the movie. She could have been in breach of contract if she backed out.

You see what happened when Mo’Nique tried to do it on her own (yes, her way was ill-advised and janky but she is just as right about wage disparities as the white women but that didn’t stop folks (a lot of them black) from clowning her). The way she was treated left me feeling some kind of way, also,

Another great aspect of the story is that Chastain came up with a project that wouldn’t just break her out of the typical roles she plays, but would also help Spencer get out of “Mammy” jail, where, with some exceptions, she’s been stuck since The Help.

“She doesn’t always say the ‘right thing’ or say it the right way”

Yeah that magazine cover incident was a mess. It’s probably why on this while I see the consequences regardless as clearly a great example of pay equity/equality there’s that small part of me that wonders was she standing up for the good of it or because it was her friend who was getting fucked over.

I love this story and the fact that Chastain didn’t tell it herself or use it to defend herself when she was recently called out for some colourblind nonsense tweet. So many of her ilk only do this shit (and not nearly this much) to later prove their legitimacy, allyship or wokeness when their racism is inevitably

White folks who like to call themselves allies please take note. She acknowledged she didnt know shit, LISTENED, then did something meaningful without making it about her.
