Because:
Because:
It's often a whole different caliber of person that rides these "sport bikes." I don't know how many actually carry, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to know some do.
I wish I could get capital-P Paid to look beautiful and bored. Of course, I'd have to be beautiful first...
Exactly. I know a lot of nurses myself, and this conforms to my knowledge of their lives.
I think you've done a pretty good job of distilling the objections here.
A lot of it, IMO, is the idea that certain major holidays should be inviolate. I figure it's rooted in religion, but it can be justified secularly too, in the name of work/life balance, family time, etc.
If I understand him correctly, he's Jewish, so his holidays don't generally get the same attention in the public/private calendar (with the possible exception of the NY area).
Same deal. Anyone who works in a hospital where their main job is in contact with patients knows going in they're probably going to work a holiday or two.
I don't really care about Thanksgiving so that means I need to sit at home, not allowed to travel or see a movie?
If you don't live in the USA any more, chances are you're somewhere that actually has more public holidays.
So everyone should take the abuse and shut up? Dude, do you even fucking humanity?
As you're no doubt aware, everyone in medicine from barely paid janitorial staff to nursing assistants to specialists outside of the ER must be present and/or on call during holidays (with caveats, as there are few derm emergencies).
Consider, if you will, that your circle of friends, family, and acquaintances might not be representative of the population as a whole.
I'm down with that. I've been to see movies on Christmas Day, but not in a long time. Frankly, in the age of Netflix and Amazon Prime, there is absolutely no need for movie theaters to be open on holidays anyway.
Elect me Supreme Emperor-Over-All, and I'll make sure that's done in the first week I'm in office. …
Maybe you agree because it's unnecessary and abusive?
"Hey, wage-slave employee, want Thanksgiving off to spend time with your family, eating more than you really should and watching football? Tough shit - come in or we'll fire your ass."
Because practically everyone (in my universe and whom I know personally, with the exception of one relative who teaches school) has to work holidays, the suggestion that working holidays is unusual or objectionable just strikes me as confusing.
Nobody cares about nurses or orderlies, either, and they sure as shit aren't making doctor wages.
