I strongly agree.
1. Have renter's or homeowner's insurance with as high a deductible as you can afford. They are inexpensive because claim rates are low. Remember that insurance is best used for the truly crushing losses:

I don't understand the complaints about LH running something on demystifying wine. Hacking life means learning about new things. A little understanding of wines doesn't make you a snob.
But this infographic is pretty lame. Looks like an attempt to compile whatever they could without research or thought about what wine…
All in favor of this topic.
But disappointed in the infographic, which seems to be all the "facts" they could gather without doing any actual research or thought. And it has errors (temperature section has two red wines, one of which I believe should be rosé).
Bland as — what? You're not doing it right.
Done this. Works great but have to watch carefully.
I've done it both ways in an oven — flat on the pan and on a wire rack. Both work. The rack makes the bacon less greasy but not a huge difference.
Good point about its use for 911 calls.
This is sometimes a great idea. I use an iPhone 3 as an iPod for the car, to ply music and podcasts (using the Downcast app). As a phone, it was frustratingly slow, but it's an awesome iPod. I also sometimes use it when working in the garden, since I don't care if it gets dirty or wet.
Also thought to use it as a…
"I had all three phones sold on Craigslist before I had a bid on Ebay."
Isn't that risky? If you sell it on CL and get a bid on eBay, what do you do? You can't renege on ebay, right?
Probably not. Most refrigerators dump the heat from coils on the back. Some are underneath, a few are on top. Changes are not much heat reaches the side of the unit.
But easy to tell and if there is heat there, could build a simple barrier to channel the heat to the other sides of the refrigerator.
Yes. Some examples of media you might have on your Mac or PC are videos you shot yourself, videos you ripped from DVDs you own. It can be handy to have all the videos on your computer available on your tv. Netflix and all are great but you have to be a subscriber and they don't have everything.
That's not to mention…
On Mac, Option-Command-J seemed to work on Chrome. It's Javascript console from the tools menu on the settings icon.
Love Field Notes' slogan: "I'm not writing it down to remember it later, I'm writing it down to remember it now."
Yes, always ask. Not just headphones. Especially on high-margin products where the manufacturing cost is a small fraction of the selling price.
Am getting free service right now on a 3-year-old Fissler pressure cooker.
Just ask and — key — be nice! Act as if they are doing you a favor and often, they will.
@timgray is right. This is a handsome hack but that can looks like galvanized (zinc coated). Zinc and fire are a dangerous combination.
Chance of an egg having salmonella in the US is 1 in 30,000. Search for "how to pasteurize eggs" if you are worried. If you are serving people with compromised immune systems, buy pasteurized eggs.
Oh, good. Was afraid it was made from babies.
