In my opinion 2 monitors for production and a smaller one for email and notifications (vertically placed) is enough to get work done with being overwhelmed with information.

The sole purpose that I root (Moto Droid) is because carriers in the US are slow to bring out the updates. Of course having variable CPU speed and Root Only apps like the one that refine app hold times in memory are a big plus!
