Hearted for the Skinner ref. We do the same thing in my class, only we go through the toddler having a tantrum int he supermarket scenario. We give the options of:
Is it just me or is there a big parenting theme running through Jez lately?
I'm going to raise all sorts of ire here, but anyway: I am an attachment parent. I try to avoid letting my son cry for extended times (over a minute or so). We don't do routines, per se. If he's hungry, he gets food. If he's thirsty, he gets a drink. He also spends part of the early morning sleeping in bed with…
I teach a lot of privileged white kids who see tertiary education as an entitlement. And also see passing as a fait accompli. No interest or effort required. Hence the parents get called in when it all goes pear shaped and the realisation that assessment generally takes work - not only intelligence - to complete. …
@Geologyst & @ astrolabe - I can understand student apathy to some extent. I mean, they've just spent the last 13 or so years in school and are now forced (by the same overbearing parents) to do even more, although without mandatory attendance requirements. Who wouldn't stuff around a bit?
I'm going to put it out there and say, yes, this is a thing. I run a large 1st year course and we are forever getting calls from parents asking what the essays are really about? And, [child] is really, really stressed. Can't we just cut her a break and grant an extension over the phone, without any documentation? …
Oh, great. Now I am going to hear hypno-toad sound effects every time I see Ashton Kutcher. Hoping he isn't the centre of any more goss.
Oh, this is Lost Boys Kiefer Sutherland. Maybe even Flatliners. Anything past then was pretty terrible.
Not me - I still feel like Kiefer Sutherland would be a dreamy catch
Is it just me, or does it seem like Ashton Kutcher is perfecting his insane-hypno stare as break-up therapy?
A stroll down memory lane! There are a number of darn good lines in that film. Not to mention the pop culture that this film spawned. And the Ben Stiller hate. Indeed a weather vane years ahead of its time.
Best line of the entire film. Hearted.
Can I just say, thanks also for the Reality Bites moment. Ah, Janeane Garofolo in mid 90s.
OMG, yes I was just about to point this out. 27?!?!?!?!? My undergrad thesis would have received a grade of 'smouldering embers' if I had have drawn these conclusions on that sample size.
I'm totally with you, here. First and foremost, there have been drastic rescues at sea for this kind of crap (e.g. the young Australian girl who initially didn't make it out to international waters; then the French lass who became stuck in the middle of nowhere in a storm).
