This movie’s first 45 minutes are BRILLIANT. The perfect ghost story, where you could come up with a rational explanation for what’s happening but your subconscious knows better and is pounding on your cortex yelling RUN YOU FOOL!

Ah, I see. So it’s less “How dare they award some Marvel picture an award?” and more, “How dare they award that awesome Marvel movie some shitty consolation prize?”

Some people are mad because they’re snobs who don’t want genre/popular films to be rewarded. Other people are mad because they feel like the popular category will be treated as a lesser award, and the optics of that (especially when popular movies often have more diverse casts than Oscar-bait) aren’t great.

Yeah, Crash won, and *so* did Shakespeare in love. So let’s not pretend that Best Picture is some kind of uncorrupted lily.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post looks good, but I will measure all gay conversion movies against this classic:

My best friend was once told by another young woman that there was no way she (my friend) had actually been raped because if she had she wouldn’t be able to talk about it, it would be too painful. I think it’s really telling that people making the “fingers aren’t the same” argument are clearly focusing on the rapist’s experience of the rape and not the victim’s.
