I saw an adult-oriented Flintstones reboot once. Let’s just say that Wilma and Betty were much MUCH closer than in the original series.

At what point exactly was Hopper made aware that Mike lied to El? Hmm? And are we forgetting here that Mike only lied because Hopper MADE him? So how was he supposed to react? He handled the situation poorly. Because he never got experience on how to handle a teenage girl. Because his own daughter died. Which makes it

Thank you very much, sir. This article, and others, infuriate me. Apparently Evan Rachel Wood finds it dreadful that Joyce even agreed to a second date because Hoppers behavior didn't warrant a second chance. As though it's Hoppers fault she stood him up without explanation. We all know Hopper is a loud and angry man

Personally, I completely understood Hopps reaction to Mike, as Mike was a horrible human being to Hopp, and you know that that wasn’t the first time he’s had to deal with Mike’s disrespect under his roof. I’m actually wondering the age range of those that are getting upset with Hopp on

This. So this take. And as a dad whose daughter is swiftly moving into the same territory as El (god help me) I fully understood and bought into the way Hopper was acting like a gigantic (mildly psychotic) spoiled brat, no one good enough for ‘his little princess’ because unfortunately that is the sort of rubbish

he also basically became a father of a teenage kid out of nowhere so yes, he obviously needs time to adjust and grow into it, and them showing that just made the character portrayal way more believable to me.

I’m pretty sure by the end of the season you will maybe change your mind.

Completely agree, very well put.

The thing that bugs me the most about this critique is that it ignores the fact that *all* of the action of this season occurs in the span of about a week, with second half of the season occurring in the span of a day. OF COURSE Hopper's going to be flipping out for a lot of it; the wounds are still *very* fresh.

What rage? Really? You guys make it sound like he beat the kid. He didn’t and it wasn’t remotely close. He hauled his smart ass home. Could he have handled things better? Sure. But it’s almost like he’s a brand new father of a teenager girl and has been through nearly literal hell and back recently. Some of

Agreed! While I didn’t always agree with Hopper’s choices and behaviors, as a father of teens I understood them. If there’s one thing that this series has done well it is to avoid making any one character the rags-to-riches hero of the show - something many fantasy serieses are often guilty of. Hopper is still human

It’s also worth noting that the whole season 3 takes place over like 5 days. So Hopper is not a monster - he’s just having a bad week and has clearly reached his breaking point. As the father of a teenage daughter myself, I’ve had plenty of times where I’ve been angry enough to shoot up an army of random Russian

I think a lot of people who disliked Hopper this season are forgetting that the entire season takes place over a period of like 3 days. They expect him to move on from being stood up by someone he cares about instantly. They expect him to move on from Mike disrespecting him instantly. They expect him basically turn

I totally agree. People don’t just change for no reason and part of what makes Stranger Things a convincing period piece is its frank depiction of stuff we would balk at today - the constant smoking, the casual homophobia, and the uncomfortable proximity of Joyce to Hopper’s un-managed emotional issues. Today, she’d

Mike was an asshole in that scene and in most of the season, honestly. Hopper’s response afterwards wasn’t okay and he’s the adult, but Mike was also being extremely uncool.

I have absolutely zero issue with the Hopper and El/Mike element this season. Lots of people likely saw themselves in Hopper. Being the parent to a teen is hard. Being thrust into being the parent to a teen has to be terrible. Mike was absolutely being a jerk.
