It’s not up to Germany directly but the EU and the EU has already said it will meet new tariffs with equal value tariffs of its own.

Its a non starter given the EU leadership have said that they aren’t willing to talk until the new tariffs have been removed and if they did reduce the car tariffs they would expect other US tariffs of the same value are also removed.

Le Mans is a awesome trip from Blighty but you are correct about the French police. I was clocked at a very fast speed a little under 40mph above the motorway limit and was frog marched (get it!) to the nearest cash point many years ago. In my defence it was the early hours of the morning and there was absolutely no

As someone who obviously knows about F1 I’m sure you also realise that changing the power unit is such a humongous change that it’s taken most of their resources for this season. They have exceeded their own expectations for this season and now need to build on their performance.

McLaren are really pushing boundaries with some of their cars at the moment. The 720s is so far ahead of other supercars in its class, it’s really shaken up the other brands which will be good for supercar development.

It makes no sense either way. The average tariff rate in both directions between the EU and the US is 3% which is entirely fair.

Agreed, the 720s is a game changer, heck it can do the 1/4 faster than a Veyron! Other cars in its class look pedestrian in comparison.

McLaren have had many winning F1 cars, 182 wins and 12 times world champions and with that I’d counter they have been amazing successful in F1 they just made a mistake employing the Honda engine.

Agreed, the 720s can do the 1/4 on road tires/fuel faster than a Bugatti Veyron!

Technically you are correct but it does cost non-US manufacturers a lot of money to work around it hence it’s still effective albeit to a lesser degree.

Agreed, it’s a terrible shame that decent folk lose their jobs through policies that make no sense. The average tariff in both directions between the US and EU is 3% which means the current system is very fair.

Although you are correct, it won’t matter to the EU. This is mission accomplished for one of their targets.

Agree, Mercedes have all of the facilities to manufacture SUVs in multiple places across the EU, they originally choose America because of the size of the market and tax breaks.

It’s already happened, the measures were put in place on Friday last week.

It’s already happening with a complete loss of faith in US leadership by both the EU and other countries. Not just in trade but also in diplomacy.

You’re absolutely right as the EU will not be bullied by the US and will continue to apply equally as damaging economic tariffs to the US. What this will actually create is distrust and hate between the historic allies in addition to the obvious economic damage.

It’s only like that for cars though. Other products are largely made in the US and purchased by the EU.

That’s quite unlikely. What is actually happening is many of the European brands have pivoted to Asian markets.

Many would likely go bankrupt.

Does that mean that the EU should also apply 25% tariff to something like the US does to the EU on light vehicles?
