I should of mentioned that whilst I’ve been in them a lot of times, I’ve never driven one!

As someone who has experienced various McLaren traction control systems, this cars TC was definitely switched off.
The cars I did the milage in are well know for reliability over huge mileage but it was split between the 3 although they all ended over 200k before I sold them.
I thought it was obvious but maybe not. I swapped cars when each individual car exceeded 200k, I didn’t buy new as I knew the car would do lots of miles and not be worth much when resold.

I see a few of the new ones around in England (never seen that before). I think they are great, they have a real presence and make a wonderful sound. Porsche’s et al are very common around these parts.

Most of the models are fairly reliable, where the wheels fell off (excuse the pun) was when they made the speed six engine.
The cars original plate was registered in England and over here we have rally car exemptions which allow rally cars to legally drive on the road as long as they pass a special vehicle safety test. I don’t believe cars are emission tested, the check is for safety items.

Signed payments are exceptionally rare here in the UK so the cashier probably checked it out of suspicion. It’s a fall back method here usually only used by visitors.

I always wonder why the US is so far behind most western countries in this respect. Everywhere here in the UK is chip-and-pin and nearly everywhere does Apple Pay.
