So I clicked that link, and I think my point remains. The interview with Fader was in spring 2018, well before this song was written, recorded, negotiated. That quote is specifically about Drake’s “Nice For What,” which you may notice is NOT called Nice for What Featuring Big Freedia.

The fact that this easily searchable answer for why Big Freedia was not in the Beyonce video, but was not included in this article, speaks volumes to the intent of the author of this piece.  Virtue signaling in action right here.

Seems a little extreme to call this a case of “ignoring [Big Freedia’s] existence” given she’s identified as featured artist right there in the official video title. This isn’t like when someone samples a song and moves along without crediting someone.

Big Freedia about the Beyonce situation:

As a Freedia fan I agree that this is an ongoing issue – However I also know that Big Freedia’s touring schedule is insane & has conflicted with other video shoots in the past. I think before jumping to conclusions about Kesha trying to suppress Big Freedia’s image let’s get the facts straight on the intention.

Hey Lauren, kind of related: do you know why using Jezebel on desktop is now interrupted by horrible autoplaying videos on every article? If you know who I can complain to (because I know you aren’t responsible!) I’d appreciate it!

What Katy Perry was thinking...

OMG I HATE MYSELF RIGHT NOW GO AHEAD AND SET ME ON FIRE BUT

I’m trying to see the Stevie comparison to Mandy Moore, even from the point of view of you writers that never grew up with Stevie and might kinda see something similar, but still nothing. Doesn’t sound in any way like Stevie voice- or music-wise, and unless one bell-sleeved gown without any of Stevie’s gypsy-like

When she closes her eyes as the spirit of Tom Delong takes over.................I felt that!

people who can dance like that blow my mind. it’s like she can control each separate muscle in her body and have them all do a very specific and different action at the same time, like rubbing your head and patting your stomach but way, way, way, way more advanced.

Normani is a fantastic dancer and I’m so excited about this video. The choreography is SICK.

I honestly feel privileged to get to see this in my lifetime. She looks so effortlessly amazing.

There’s something about her where she breaks the mold in every aspect of gymnastics and makes her a GOAT for more than just her capabilities. She’s incredible for so many reasons. Forgetting her insane skills for just a moment, consider:

Came for the song, stayed for the boobs shooting Care Bear hearts.

Took my daughter (13) to go see her at our local arena. I had a wonderful time not only seeing my daughter sing along and be so happy in the moment of that concert, but also the WHOLE MIX of people that were there to have a great time together singing and having a fun time in life.  That is a spectacle everyone should

You know, she has PTSD. She’s been open about it. So maybe we can stop making fun of her crying? Because difficulty regulating emotions is a symptom. It’s really not OK to be flippant about it in a society that often treats people with mental illness as less than human. Thanks.

I know she has young fans, but she’s not JoJo Siwa. This seems like a bit of a patronizing question when surely her core fanbase is much, much closer to her peers

“They’re for sure gonna have it. I promise. I promise that your kid’s gonna have sex. So if she asks you what the song’s about, talk about it.”

I just celebrated the 4 year anniversary of her "I hate America" donut shop fiasco! It feels so long ago but she was really ahead of the curve on that one. It's like she knew where this country was headed!
