You think that that’s some kind of counterargument, but.
You think that that’s some kind of counterargument, but.
The key difference here is that “Latinx” is not used by that community (a recent survey found that fewer than 30% of Latin people had even heard of that term) and every Latin person I know finds it offensive at worst and goofily perfomative at best.
Listen Ms Rowling, you don’t need to comment on EVERY article about every actor in your shitty new movie.
This is so tiresome, so this will be my last response to this exact same comment.
No, it is not. “They” is regularly used as a single pronoun and has been for just about ever. It may not be as common in written form, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a thing. A thing that predates any nonbinary usage of it.
I’m not letting an apologist out of the greys, but I will address this:
If you are really an ally, even if it bothered you, you would respectfully use it.
The issue is that because so many transphobic idiots like to us arguments like “They is not singular” as a stealth way to say “I hate trans people” without saying it, honest conversations about how the word “they” can be confusing in the context of certain situations tend to get overlooked.
That’s what my 9th grade honors english teacher constantly told me! But, times a-changin, kelppy
Do your parents know that you are using their computer?
Oh good, just what the AV Club comment section needs! More pedantic whiners.
I suspect as its use becomes more common, people will get used to it and it will soon be no harder to read than an article full of he/him/she/her.
It’s not confusing at all. You clearly understand that they’re using “they” to describe themself. Stop trolling. Learn. Grow. Be better. Don’t be the crappy human you currently seem to be.
OK Grandpa, come get the one remaining grandkid that talks to you to come switch off the computer, that’s enough for today.
We respectfully disagree.
You’re being too humble. It’s extremely helpful for this article! I wish you’d edited it.
Yes, miller came out as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. The AV Club is just following that (as they should). I’m not sure what you’re getting at with the Linklater thing, since as far as I’m aware he uses he/him pronouns (or at least hasn’t made any public statements to the contrary).
Personally, between neopronouns and just a neutral they/them, I prefer they/them for myself as it better suits who I am but one thing that comes up a lot in these discussions is whew, yeesh, if you think it’s bad enough getting people onboard with neutral pronouns (see: comment section otherwise), it’s a REALLY rough…
If Richard Linklater had expressed a pronoun preference it’d probably be mentioned on Wikipedia, so [citation needed]
out of all the shit you could criticize and this is what you go after? what’s wrong with you... how is that possibly what you took away here outside of colossally overbearing transphobia, sexism, homophobia, and a deep misunderstanding of history and language? They fucking strangled someone and you’re mad about…
Where is the teacher? They are in the other classroom.
‘They’ can be a singular pronoun. It’s been that way long before any of us were alive and will outlive us all.
