If you read Point Blank, just be prepared for the fact that it's really damn hard to follow. (Admittedly, I hadn't really read any comics featuring Grifter since the early '90s before reading Point Blank.)

Y'know, I've actually been pleasantly surprised by Daniels's Detective Comics so far. I really didn't care for his work on Batman leading up to the relaunch, but the first two issues of Detective were fairly compelling. Also, Tomasi and Gleason's Batman & Robin is pretty decent.
Weird. I used to get the two of them confused. Not sure why that happened.
That was the impression I got when I saw him at a Fangoria Weekend of Horrors convention a couple years ago. He was on a Mutant Chronicles panel with Ron Perlman and Anna Walton. He acted like he would rather be anywhere else and was a total asshole to the moderator. Okay, I can understand not being excited about…
I remember an interview with the director where she talked about how Ben Affleck actually went up to her and asked her what his motivation for the scene was. She says she took that to mean he'd be an actor to watch. Were I in her place, I think my reaction would have been something more along the lines of, "Your…
@The Beast Rabin,
I've long thought that you have one of the best screen names ever (even if it can only be appreciated in the confines of The AV Club). Now you have written one of the best posts ever. As much as I dislike this particular meme, I must now say it: You win the internet!
I agree. It's not bad, and Carr manages to evoke Doyle's writing style quite well, but the story is pretty slight. I'm glad I didn't read The Alienist until after having read The Italian Secretary. Knowing what Carr is capable of would have left me extremely disappointed.
Yeah, Murder Rooms was awesome. It's a shame Richardson died.
Dead Letter Circus
They're yet another band that I'm not sure if anyone considers to be metal, but I definitely think Dead Letter Circus deserves a shout-out. They just released their first full-length album last month, and it's pretty great.
I saw Isis for the first (and I guess last) time this past Saturday, and it was a great, great show. I was slightly (only slightly) disappointed that they didn't play "Weight" or "Hall of the Dead,"—perhaps the fact that those songs feature guest performers makes them more difficult to play live?—but the fact that…
Krazy Kat… I don't get it
A few years ago, having heard about how Krazy Kat is supposedly the best comic strip to ever exist, I checked out a few volumes of the reprints from the library. After reading about a quarter of the book, all I could think was, "What the fuck?" It's not that I think it's bad,—the art is…
Karnivool
I don't think Leonard (or anyone else) has previously mentioned them,—or if people would consider them to be metal—but I just wanted to try to bring them to people's attention. I went to see Fair To Midland—also a band I'm not sure if people consider to be metal—a few weeks ago, and it was a double bill with…
THIS. IS. SPARTA.
I remember hearing that Clive Owen was supposed to be starring in a new Philip Marlow movie (to be based on Trouble Is My Business). I'd love to see him in a new version of The Big Sleep.
Big Sleep vs. Maltese Falcon
I sometimes feel like I'm one of the few, but when it comes to the films, I really prefer The Maltese Falcon to The Big Sleep (despite the fact that my feelings are quite the opposite when it comes to the original novels). While I really like The Big Sleep, I think I was partially biased…
@Jorge Von Salsa,
Don't you mean "Robert 'It must be weird, not having anybody come on you' Davi'"?
Hidden
Man, you weren't foolin' when you said Hidden moves too slowly. I tried watching it the other week, and about halfway through, I realized that I had no idea what was going on because I'd found conversation with my roommate far more interesting. I'm not one to easily get distracted while watching a movie, but…
I want to have your babies, Sam Fisher!
I'm nearly finished with it*, and I have to say that I love the shit out of this game. I think the reason why is because it reminds me of Arkham Asylum (which is pretty much my favorite game ever). It features a combination of stealth-oriented levels and out-and-out action…
I can't believe people are complaining about Mark & Execute. Then again, not having been playing console games for very long, I'm still crap at aiming with the analog stick, so M&E is a bit of a godsend for me. (Plus, there's just something so incredibly satisfying about dropping onto someone from above and then…
Paul McGann
I, for one, am glad McGann's Doctor wasn't retconned out of existence. His performance was pretty great even if the story he was in was crap. Thankfully, he decided not to be "the George Lazenby of Doctor Who" and did the Big Finish audio adventures. I only wish there was some way to actually do some more…
