Seriously. He never stopped being punk rock in the best sense of the idea.
“Not you, Chet. You look like a dinosaur’s tampon.”
I think that upsets me more than Tony tbh. Those are the best episodes, I love them together.
My favorite Anthony Bourdain moment is probably something only one other person remembers.
I am so, so sad that Eric found him. Breaks my heart.
My favorite Bourdain moment was anytime he ate in someone’s home on his shows. It was so lovely to see how honored and humbled he was to be there and sharing a meal. I always thought his descriptions of the work and care going into home-cooked food were poetic and moving, and never, ever judgmental. He never went chef…
His quote on Henry Kissinger:
There’s so many for me. I’ve been watching all his shows as they evolved and matured over time, and there’s certainly many food misadventures to come to mind. But there’s a story that takes place between two episodes, early in No Reservations’ run, that defined him and the show going forwards.
“ABB” = Always be Berating and Belittling!
I don’t have a particular moment that especially sticks out. Certain early episodes of No Reservations will always remain, the Rome episode (black and white) and Montana are all-timers. Also, he managed to give the best interview of Barack Obama during the entirety of his presidency.
My favorite thing about Bourdain is that there’s so much tape on him. Go back and watch A Cook’s Tour - the dude is brasher, ruder, less open minded, etc.
My mom laughed in the theater when David Warner got decapitated in The Omen. My brother was mortified.
You were right to laugh. The movie’s mistake is not recognizing that everyone secretly wants Gwyneth Paltrow to die a horrible death
Song of the South?
Going the opposite direction, I had an uncontrollable fit of laughter in the theater at the end of Se7en. I couldn’t stop laughing when Brad Pitt started yelling “What’s in the box?”
“WE WERE ON A BREAK...IN OUTER SPACE!”
“Could we BE any more lost in space?”
“How you doin’...in outa space!”
I cried during the 1998 Lost in Space Reboot. I felt so bad for William Hurt and those poor actors. No one deserved that.
