This is really angering for me as a public health researcher. Public health policies that are often easy and cheap to implement are not being implemented because of the power we have given in this country to religion and religious nut jobs. This is a fight that should not exist. Science and not religion should guide

Another comment wanders into the wilderness to be found, desiccated and alone, victim of endless Kinja scrolling. So long traveler, so lost, so far from home.

We also (obviously) have a huge freaking mess in the US at the moment. It is painful and embarrassing and terrifying and frustrating.

I can remember the first time I got self-conscious about my weight. I was six or seven. I was in dance class. I was taking jazz. We were dancing to Zippity Do Da and had costumes that showed our midriff. The mothers started making comments about our cookie tummies and cutting down before the big recital. It was like

I thought that was the story with Corbyn- that he would be happy to shuffle NI off to the Republic, hence the DUP objections (to put it politely) to him. I think that most of the world is just hoping that there can be a peaceful solution that is also economically viable in Ireland. I read about the interdependence of

As a native of a former British colony, I admit the idea has a lot of schadenfreude for me...

I honestly never understood why Dr. Phil* spent even a moment of time talking to this girl when he should have been having a come to Jesus with her mom.

Newgrange is impressive but we’re fairly spoilt for prehistoric/historic sites. It’s not technically prehistoric (in terms of the human settlements there) but the Skelligs are the most incredible place I’ve ever been to anywhere in the world and it’s right on my doorstep. I’m biased but I still find it mind boggling

It warms my cold Celtic heart to see this profiled here. It really is a spectacular event given that it was built so precisely thousands of years ago so as to allow the inner chamber to be flooded with sunlight on the solstice. I’ve been as a school kid but not during the solstice. Would LOVE to though. Hashtag older

When I was a kid (in the 70s) you could just drive up and park next to the field and walk into the mound. My mother grew up about 15 minutes/half-an-hour away from it and some of her family still lives nearby; so everytime I was in Ireland as a kid (twice a year or so) we went.
Now you have to go through a visitors’

So apparently at some point, right after Dr. Phil when she was even a year younger than she is now, her mother allowed her to charge online for people to see her “chilling” or “dancing” or whatever...while scantily clad, of course. I don’t know if that is still happening or not.

Sure, it’s a good idea for this girl to be in the public eye and not regularly attend school. She is clearly gonna be jusssst fine. Yup.

It looks like there was a custody fight between homeless Mom, and Dad with degenerative muscular disease (MS maybe) who was living with/in care of his Mom, her Grandma. Dad apparently directed a lot of the abuse with Grandma being his hands.

My god, I was so taken aback by that line.

“I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing,” Grassley told the Register, “as opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies.”

I believe so. Although, shit stirring in Belfast is like shooting fish in a barrel. Where better to try and stir up some religious hatred, than in the (former?) home of sectarian violence.

I feel like all of this belongs in a scary movie...I was legitimately creeped out watching that first vid.

If Jack had survived, Rose wouldn’t have gotten to learn how to ride horses, or have lots of babies, or anything else he wanted her to do...because they would have been too busy having lots of twisty-wristed car sex.

...he’s sick and tired of answering questions about Titanic—arguably the best movie he’s made in his entire career.

I remember first hearing about him in college, when there’s always an opportunity to run into truly shitty music.
