Even if it’s the same thing as average Germans allowing the rise of Nazism, it’s still the world you live in. So you can either dismiss anyone who labels themselves as conservatives as irrational and unworthy of being listened to, or you can accept humans beings are imperfect, complex, yet still worth interacting

You put a lot of faith in your ability to accurately judge a total stranger is a liar when the only evidence is they call themselves a conservative (and even that is based on some personal criteria of theirs that you’re unaware of).

As a strategy of preventing more people being mislead by those ideas? Yes. Definitely hear both sides. Hearing the other side doesn’t harm you. If you’re smart about it, it actually does the opposite.

I agree there’s baggage with the term, just like there’s baggage with any social or political label. That’s why I think it’s even MORE important not to summarily dismiss millions of people as irrational just because some portion of their beliefs fall within a label that has some baggage. Humans are so complex. Lumping

I’m not advocating tea with the KKK. I’m advocating something less extreme. I think you know that, but you’d rather rail against an unrealistic extreme because it’s safer than engaging in other, more realistic, situations.

OK. Just be careful not to insulate yourself from outside thought. Also, it’d be nice if you also gave strangers the benefit of the doubt, but maybe that’s asking too much of you.

So instead of challenging what I said, you’d rather attach my personally? You may not realize it, but most people consider that a sign you have nothing meaningful to contribute to a conversation.

seems similar to your painting with a broad stroke about liberals, no?

I’ll concede many conservatives are guilty of what you’re claiming, but all aren’t. But that nuance is lost to you. Instead, you want a simple world where anyone who doesn’t agree with you must be a monster. It leads down a path where eventually everyone but you will be a monster. Good luck with that.

Your use of such a vague term like “support” is meaningless. And the claim you know what millions of others believe, and that they are unified in that belief you attribute them, is dubious. All that, just so you can tell yourself it’s OK not to see conservatives as rational individuals like yourself. Sad.

I didn’t realize you considered Trump your personal roll model. He’ll be proud when he finds out.

Yeah. You’ve talked to ~20 people, so that’s probably a large enough sample size to brand millions of others you’ve never met.

So you justify willful ignorance with a healthy dose of hasty generalization?

They should run with this and actually get together for the world’s largest white elephant swap.

The intolerance of the replies here is sad, yet hilarious. Nearly everyone of them amounts to, “anyone who disagrees with me must be evil, stupid, ignorant, or some combination.” That’s a myopic way to trudge through life. Whatever happened to the idea of honestly listening to people who disagree with you? I imagine

They just need to get more creative with the spelling:

I like to carry scissors in both my hands while I drive and you can’t make me do otherwise.

I imagine in raising Truman, they could structure what he considered to be a “vacation.” It’s possible all of the “vacation” options he knew existed were ones the producers knew he would never want to go on. Also, they could raise him to believe vacations are only things women did.

Yeah. There was no “try.” It was “do, or “do not.”

and not dying.
