I see you point...and I guess it can work without the backstory...but without the backstory...the ending doesn’t make nearly as much sense, I believe and I don’t recall the film delving into the nature of Rustin Parr’s crimes against children....the way he made one child stand in the corner while he tortured another

the reason most people don’t get/care for the first film is the film didn’t work as a stand alone. it was the first movie that utilized an ARG.specifically in the year prior to the films release the website went up...the one that presented itself as “real life” web page about the myth and history of the BlairWitch and

some of Quantum Mechanix best stuff are prototypes that never see production. they at one point were working one a massive Cylon Base star (RDM series) that was to be entirely lit by fiber optics...in a similar fashion the Serenity they produced.

okay...as neat a piece of history as that is...I’m really glad they went another direction. even with the deviation from the tripods of the Wells novel...the war machines of the 1953 film are just to well designed and iconic to be without. and the Martians were a complete departure from what had been used before.

most likely you are looking at the edges of the mask coming unglued...early on they were glued down to be seamless, but as he sweats more and moves about the edges are coming up. maybe he should have used something like surgical glue instead of spirit gum.
