My understanding from the mud guys is that supercharger a and/or nitrous help get those huge wheels spinning to get through the mud. No exactly torque on the stump pulling sense, but the ability to get the revs into the power band quickly to stay up on top of the mud.

Try and watch the ERC of they still show it. It used to be on MavTV around the same time as WRC events. They have a lot of other classes and are lower tiers so you can see what rallying is really like.
