“I don’t buy into the “it’s a movie, don’t think about it” mindset. Yes, a lot of high-concept works don’t think past their immediate plots; but that’s no reason not to engage as an audience with the worlds and ideas we’re being shown.”
heh. I just had a conversation with someone who doesn’t like zombie books/movies because they are unrealistic. He has no problem with vampires, flying monkeys, or people standing on clouds waiting for a ship which is fishing for lightning.
my first memory is standing in my crib while my my older brother talks to me. Our mother telling him to leave me alone so I’ll go to sleep.
Lobsters have a nervous system. It is possible they do feel pain. I’m not sure how intensely they might feel it or how quickly a change in temperature might render them incapable of registering said feeling. And I don’t know how a lobster’s experience via their nervous system compares to human/mammalian’s experience.
“I would love to see Shuri as the new Iron Man/Heart/whatever in a sort of Shuri/Riri Williams hybrid, because Shuri is awesome and more Wakanda is good.”
I respect your opinion. I don’t share it, but I do respect it.
“While I agree that more social and ethnic variety would be nice, I don’t get the reason of wanting to “see yourself” in the media. <SNIP>
“And if language, personal appearance, and story arcs are chosen for the convenience of the audience, of what would matter most to us when we watch it and not for what would be “real” in Middle Earth or Westeros — why should skin color be different?”
“Change one character and you have to change every character in their family and in Ciris case the region her family rules so its not just “who is best for the part” it has to make sense in the story.”
yay!
Fake news and mob mentality are quite dangerous. However I haven’t seen or heard any backlash - or even potential backlash- against disney over this. Granted, disney fired Gunn pretty quick - but I still don’t think there would have been a big enough boycott to harm disney.
he’s a Time Lord with a TARDIS - you’d think he’d be able to manage scheduling :-) (unless the TARDIS is still ‘broken’... didn’t the older versions have a TARDIS with faulty navigation?)
yes - more UK programming on BBC America would be great.
“If we keep Gunn on, we risk middle-America families not going to Disneyland anymore because they stupidly think one of the Marvel directors is a Pedo, we get right wing religious child advocacy groups boycotting Avengers 4 because they think that’s a Gunn movie although he’s not involved, and other similar boycotts…
“If nobody ever sticks to their principles? Nothing changes. If one person sticks to their principles? Nothing changes.”
“Agreed. A lot of people seem to have trouble with my bit of hyperbole above.”
“You’ll take my magic in my fantasy games from my cold dead hands!”
I just replayed DA: Origins.
