There would be very strong latter day George Lucas aspect to the kind of over-planning you are talking about, and that is not a compliment.

Ooh, Moffat’s worst was really bad. Really, really bad. But his average is still pretty much equal to Chibnall’s best, if not better.
Only Babylon 5 was a serial by pretty much one writer, and Sinclair being Valen was planned from the start.
...that is where I’m currently expecting things to go.
Well, we already know Jack has been sent back in time and had to age back into the present day at least once, so there’s no way of telling how old he was chronologically when the Face of Boe first came on the scene. Could’ve pulled a Marvin and been sent back to the beginning of time repeatedly, so he was far older…
Back in 1963.
I remember going to see Poltergeist as a kid and thinking to myself, "WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN!??" as the guy tore his own face off.
Poltergeist was fucking PG!!!
**SPOILER ALERT — BECAUSE I SAW THIS FULLY ANTICIPATING A “SO BAD IT’S GOOD” TRASH CLASSIC AND WASN’T DISAPPOINTED**
Hell, his family films did that. There are parts of ET and Close Encounters that still give me the heebie jeebies.
“looks dazed and confused. You know, like the movie that came out last year.”
Oh I agree, but between watches I’d forgotten how de-emphasised the horror elements were. I don’t mean it as a complaint.
It’s not supposed to be; “running from a masked figure with a knife” is about as old-hat as Frankenstein; what matters now is what they do with it. Happy Death Day is a comedy where Jessica Rothe gets to make wacky faces and show off her extremely underexposed talents. And it’s great at that.
You had one job, movie. One. Freakin’ Job.
What’s with this trend?
No Ricardo Montalbán? This movie is doomed. It’s like trying to have a Chrysler Cordoba commercial with Benedict Cumblebumble. Where is the rich Corinthian leather? Michael Peña? Awww mannnn!
There are a handful of exceptions. I can’t believe, for instance, that The Ring wasn’t R. But they are mostly: (i) outright bad in any event; or (ii) neutered to the point that the one thing that might make them interesting has been sucked out of them.
So there’s no Tattoo character?
Happy Death Day was PG-13 and a lot of fun. Not the most horror of horror movies, but still totally worthwhile. I loved Drag Me to Hell as well.
There are some decent-to-good horror movies that are PG-13. Drag Me To Hell, the Insidious movies, A Quiet Place, and The Others were all PG-13. Depends on what you’re looking for, but a PG-13 rating doesn’t automatically kill a horror movie.
