It sounds like a bad videogame where they took an idle sound and just extrapolated and sped it up to provide the vehicle sound at higher RPMs.,
Definitely the VQs - but only with an aftermarket exhaust. Stock exhaust? Sounds fine (good, even). Anything else? Absolute garbage. Especially if some asshat added a pop/crackle tune.
Because the V8 Audis that switched to a timing chain on the back of the engine don’t require any kind of service during their life, and that service totally doesn’t require you to remove the entire engine...

Honestly, I just want the last few Tombs of the Fallen. It’s clearly obvious that there are 2 or 3 more, which will allow you to open the big initial room...but it’s been radio silence regarding those.
