I mean, this isn't necessarily adaptations, but this list of domestic grosses for films adjusted for price inflation has 2 movies in the top 5 alone and 6 in the top 20. They are:

This is exactly me. I'm a huge romance reader but I can't touch FSoG due to the fact that the first complaints I heard about it referenced the lack of copy editing. I can't deal with that sort of thing.
