Mannnnn. I hate having to be so proactive about not being fat! :) I lived in the south end and had to walk everywhere for everything. On top of just normal work outs.

I think some factors also include urban life - big cities are walkable, have public transportation and not as many people own cars. Weather is also an influence - the South is fricking hot and sweaty, every time I've been there. I wouldn't want to go for a run either.

Ugh, I moved from Boston to Colorado and packed on pounds. I didn't realize how all of the walking throughout the day would play such a major role. I hadn't gained weight in 10 years and then packed on 15 lbs in three months.
