My mom and my sponsor are solid, my cats are assholes in a way only I understand, and I’m going to believe in Barack, Michelle, and Mr. Rogers regardless.
The year is 2017 and everyone you’ve ever liked or admired is garbage.
Did you ever try asking them what Jesus had to say about abortion?
Same. The racist policy stuff is just icing on the anti-choice cake.
I grew up in Alabama, and I agree. Abortion being THE issue at the ballots was preached from my family and from the pulpit, and it took moving out of the state to reverse the brainwashing. It was framed as, if you voted for a pro-choice candidate you were the problem. Nothing is more important in Southern politics…
I’m pretty sure the white woman GOP voters in my family (Alabamans) vote 100% only based on abortion. They will never vote for someone who admits to being pro-choice. For real. That and they are stealth racists who don’t care about equality. It’s like beating your head against a wall to convince them anything other…
“I have definitely had piggish thoughts about random women but I have never been that hard up that I couldn’t find a consensual partner to entertain my inner pig.”
That’s all well and good, and I’m glad you have this realization, but I fear for you when this is no longer the status quo: “...he cares about me being happy because it makes his life better to have me happy”
Women are people. They are more than half of the people. Failure to recognize women as people means that more than half of humanity is hobbled, just off the bat. We as a species spend enormous amounts of energy to literally hold ourselves back.
That’s it, exactly. It’s coming from a place of empathy rather than a place of demand.
I don’t see that.
Acknowledgment of complicity / guilt can be a dodge in place of meaningful action, or it can be a first step followed by meaningful action. It’s the meaningful action that tells you something about the sincerity and intentions.
Wait, I think I get it. Calling yourself trash is how men deal with the fact that they actually like patriarchy and misogyny because it benefits them. So they show shame and that covers up for the fact that they still want dominance. If you say “I’m trash” and do a little performative feminism, you can avoid changing…
Agreed. Seems like if you don’t have an age-balanced sample, you can only test a cross-section of music relevant to whatever age range you’re studying.
Psychopathy does not decrease with age.
Considering they gave this to 190 psych students (as a former undergrad psych student myself I used to do these types of studies for extra credit) it seems like it might be biased since I wonder how many current undergrads have heard of the songs My Sharona or Money for Nothing.
Preach (heh)! I’ve never met a group of people as uncomfortable with their faith as “progressive” Catholics. Not a one of them has a good reason for why they stick with it, but damn, do they become defensive and mean when you call them on their bullshit. To a certain extent I feel bad for them because Protestant…
The parent comment from Detective Brenda Lee Johnson: “Before a bunch of dudes jump on here and say, “BUT YOU SHOULD JUST BE HONEST WITH THE GUY!” A lot of the times we can’t, because every single one of us has some story of rejecting a guy and getting yelled at or worse.”
So you’d be fine living with someone who hates everything you are simply because once in a while they give you a few minutes of relief?
