His next film, the dystopian action thriller Elysium, starring Matt Damon, was thinking-man’s science fiction and another win.

There are some good movies on this list.

Hook by Steven Spielberg

I wonder when he’ll stop being a thing. I’m confused by why anyone credits him for Euphoria. The writing on that show is awful. Euphoria isn’t Sam Levinson’s. It’s the house that Zendaya built, and that Sydney Sweeney has helped make strong. Without those two giving depth to their characters, Euphoria would be a lot

The thing is Euphoria has a lot of these same issues. I imagine if not for the Zendaya and Sydney Sweeny of it , Euphoria would crumble.

I’ve never seen Euphoria. But I have read four different articles explaining that he’s basically a horny middle aged man reliving his teenage fantasies of sexual empowerment with the silent nodding approval of the modern horny-old-folks audience primarily signing up to watch it. Kind of like how Betty and Veronica run

Yeah, from “The Show Where Sam Shows up,” S02E16:

Yeah I’d be thrilled if Jane Leeves or Peri Gilpin pop up for an episode, but yeah it doesn’t need to be Frasier all over again.

Yeah I feel conflicted. I heard so many raves about Euphoria and its cast and I felt like sooner or later I’d need to watch this generation defining television series.

Or people who think they’re the hero are more likely to be garbage people because they discount the agency and interests of others. For them, doing the right thing means satisfying this hero complex, in which often the only beneficiary is their own perseverance against a society that doesn’t value them at the expense

It’s not surprising that the man who’s made his millions off of a show featuring teenagers experiencing cyclical substance and relational abuse, has a grim and frankly perverse approach to telling the story of an exploited young woman in the industry.

So just a bit more exploitative than Entourage?

I’m not sure this article needed to end with,With any luck, this dismal project will never see the light of day.” I’m sure there’s dozens and dozens of hard-working crew members pouring themselves into this production that would rather have it released than thrown on the scrap heap.

That sounds like a series of arthouse films.

I had the same feeling when I rewatched American History X last year. Both movies are arguably more relevant now than when they were released.

The movie manages to be simultaneously anchored to the exact time it was made (DFENS being a defense contractor who just lost his job due to the end of the Cold War) and more relevant than ever (pathetic middle-aged white guy snapping and going on an increasingly violent rampage).

You’re streets ahead of me

“George Lucas is going to make new Star Wars that isn’t so woke. And then my dad’s going to come back and tell me he loves me. And then we’ll go on that fishing trip.”

Imagine turning down Star Wars level money because you needed likes from anonymous bigoted morons on the internet that badly. Galaxy (far, far away) brain move.
