Arabs and Berbers (Amazigh, to use their self-designation) are two different ethnicities.

It seems to me that the problem is less that ‘they’ can’t be used as a singular; the problem is that it becomes more ambiguous in situations like this where multiple people are involved / referred to and it’s essentially being used as a singular and/or as a plural simultaneously.

If I were WB, I’d pony up the money and replace them with a new actor. Because it’s not just about 2023's box office. People are going to see this because Michael Keaton’s BATMAN from 30 years ago is in this. The Flash could be the same, WB could make money off of this for decades or they can drop it and forget it.
