I was able to deduct the sales tax of the car I bought in 2015. I don’t think the vehicle has to be for business purposes to get that deduction.

I think the surveys have the intended effect. It's a carrot/stick reward system. If you're relying on reward (bonus) income to live, you're in the wrong line of work. I don't plan my budget around my annual bonus, because that would be stupid.
