Right after my divorce, I bought a used yellow NX1600. It was an automatic, but as cars go, it wasn’t bad at all. I remember it moderately fondly, and it got very good gas mileage for the time.
So, if you are a short-term leaser, you can expense the whole payment, turn the car in after a year, and effectively have saved as much as 40% of the payment in taxes.
Had plenty of clients (as a tax accountant) deduct the entire lease payment as an expense, and it is perfectly legal and acceptable to do so.
I assume that many people who are leasing cars for a short-term period are expensing the lease payments through their businesses anyway, relying to some degree on tax savings to offset some of the costs.
I worked at a place for 15 months, and my boss went through five different new vehicles in that time.
