I finally got around to reading "Ready Player One." A very fun and easy read. Highly recommend it to anyone with a lazy rainy day to waste.

Video games is my secret shame too. in the last three years I've called in sick so I could play Uncharted 2, Demon and Dark Souls, LA Noir,  Mass Effect 2, Civ V and most recently Diablo 3.

I went through a phase in college - about my junior year right after I had picked my major - where I would read depressing novels in class instead of listening to the lectures.  It was a very dark time. I'm not sure if I was depressed because I was reading depressing books, or if my depression was making me read

Which one is Kat McPhee? The one sitting on the chair?

Having a sheltered upbringing, the first version of Aliens I saw was a safe for network TV adaption some time in the late 80s. I remember vividly the machine gun sequence- so much so that when I saw the original version I was confused about why that scene was missing.

I'm working through Bank's "Surface Detail" at the moment. I've enjoyed all the  Culture novels I've read, although I think so far "Player of Games" is my favorite. I really want to read "Inversions" which supposedly is a novel seen from the other side of a Special Circumstances mission.

I always found the Grier bits hilarious. Even thinking about his rendition of Chim Chimery makes me smile.

Worst summer movie lineup ever.

I knew a guy who made good money selling porn mags to underage Morman kids. He said they were the best customers because inevitably they would burn the magazine they had just bought and be back for another one within a week or two.

If I was dead and forced to haunt a house where people whacked off at all times of the day I would be pretty grumpy too.. I say good for the ghost.

For anybody that's studied Dicken's in-depth - were his protagonists always thought to be a little shallow - or is that just a by-product of a post-modern world view polluting the experience?

I would go with with Eko for season 2. I always thought he was one of the more conflicted characters. His backstory was great. Was he a good guy? A bad guy? The way he stood up to the smoke monster at the very end was badass.
