Not a pay gap story, but a story of a boss (or series of bosses, I guess) giving me that much needed push I needed to spiral further into depression back in 2016.

Filled a spot that was held by a man as an online organizer for a progressive PAC. Bring in 25,000 new members, press, famous people, revamped online training and vetting systems. Somehow find out (ok, I made friends with the accountant) that dude was making $65k. I was making $40k. Asked for a raise. Boss tells me,

I was in engineering too. Stay with your company and you’ll get 2%-3% raises every year. Move to a different company and get a 20%-30% pay hike.

Ditto except not an engineer. Part of the problem for me is both of my parents work blue collar jobs and I didn’t really have any help with negotiating or figuring out what a “good” salary was.

Dismissing valid issues as “oppression Olympics” is bullshit. This is a problem that is not just significantly worse for WOC but that also requires different steps needed to fix the issue for them.

Oh Jez, thanks for this.

It also alleges that “while Benz was gagged with her underwear,” water was “poured down her throat, causing Benz to choke.”

“As with most things if people would just stfu and go on with their business there would be a lot less problems in the world. However, the liberal agenda not quite satisfied with fundamentally altering a 3000 year old tradition of man/woman only marriage have moved on to having 99.99% of the world codify the bathrooms

Step back. Her color and her former profession do not matter. But this is supposedly a feminist site. One would think a moment in feminist history would be relevant.

Black market injections are nothing to laugh about. I remember years ago, there was a group in Florida targeting lower income trans women for injections and it turned out they were using things like rubber cement and caulk. Here are the before and after pictures of Rajee Narinesingh, one of their victims who was able

Just swinging in here to emphasize this quote:

Also an engineer and I can’t say I have this experience. College was fine but in the industry there is a low level of bias that steadily builds over time, which eventually robs you of opportunities, promotions and salary adjustments. I’ve rarely experienced people being all out sexist dicks, but frequently experience

I’m glad you shared this, as the first thing that came to mind was my experience in law school. As you and I both know, the infamous gunner is real—the most obnoxious, most vocal, most know-it-all students invariably fail to do as well as their ego dictates. On the other hand, it’s often the quieter, more humble

I work for a major science and engineering firm that has a pretty aggressive, top-down policy of attracting women into a very male-dominated field. My boss is a woman as are half of the co-workers in my team. One of the department heads is also a woman (all of them engineers). I’ve yet to witness any man-splaining or

But they don’t come here for the people. They don’t really come here for the land. That’s something that really bothers me. They got off the plane, get in the rental car, drive around, consume, consume, consume, then they take off. And they don’t do anything to recognize the people who have lived here and who still

Having gone through a male - dominated graduate program and many years of fighting with my conservative uncle on the Internet, I can attest to this. It’s been my experience that men are good at memorizing and regurgitating information without comprehension of said information. They will spout anything off the top of

I stopped reading at “At the same time that Santa Fe and Taos undergo a massive and perhaps irreversible gentrification process.” FFS, Taos is a goddamned ski resort and has been an artist colony since 1899. Georgia O’Keeffe moved to Santa Fe in 1984. Both these places were gentrified before this person was even born.

“I HAVE TO HAVE A LOUD IMPORTANT PHONE CONVERSATION IN THE COMMON AREA SO NO ONE FORGETS HOW IMPORTANT I AM I’M THE MOST IMPORTANT LAWYER MAN AROUND” my experience from working at a number of firms.

Well, NO SHIT.

I grew up in a remote place in Alaska and my dad carried a sidearm for his job. He had a safe in his truck and one in the house, and the gun was on his belt or in one of the safes, unloaded. He moved it from the truck safe to the house safe when he came home and back again when he came home. We knew we couldn’t hug
