I’ve worked in enterprise software for my entire career (1999-present) and I can tell you that the management of these companies is absolutely infatuated with collecting user data like this and believes that there is nothing wrong with collecting this data.

Not surprising in the least to anyone who has been paying attention to privacy laws and protections. It isn’t just car companies, it’s every company trying to do this.
