If your company feels like people are abusing sick days and PTO, simply by using them, then don’t offer those. Yes, you will have a more “productive” workforce, but you will be getting the bottom of the barrel candidates.

I use my sick hours when I want, sick or not. If you don’t want your employees to use sick days, then you shouldn’t let them have it at all. Then watch your staff move on to other companies that respect employees more than you.

I agree with your greater point that employees should conduct themselves with professionalism and conscientiousness. But my point is this manager is ignoring a pretty big logical flaw when they claim temp workers’ 2% rate indicates that others are abusing the system.

I know we have our problems and total lack of labor protections here in the US, but this seems like it would be pretty illegal over here right? Does Germany/Europe not have their own version of HIPAA? I know an employer can require a Dr’s note, but home visits seem pretty outrageous.
