My opinion - as a C4 owner who used to have a B5 - Ur-S4/S6 is the lowest maintenance older Audi, and the B5 S4 is the best high-maint. performance bet.

I can't think of any properly attractive car in the current BMW line-up. The bets is probably the 2-series, but it just manages to avoid being ugly. All the sins of modern car design are present - bizarre over-busy front ends, high belt-lines, and flabby slab sides.
