Makes you wonder what the recruitment pitch was like. From what I’ve read about cults they find some way to hold your attention until you’re in too deep to get out. The two of them combined couldn’t compell me to watch their show, so they sure couldn’t get me to join a cult.

I couldn’t help but think that if his manager, on hearing about this crap, had helped him decide to take a Chappelle-esque break and get some private treatment (compared with someone like a Weinstein, he’s got a pretty specific behavior pattern that is probably more amenable to intervention), he might have recovered

Compartmentalization. For too many men, it’s how they live.

Hey its a fucking tough situation!! I mean I am not even his friend and still are like WHAT DO WE DO.

Well, sure. If you go out of your way to reframe it in the least generous way possible, of course it sounds bad.

I totally agree - but its just like internal battle (at least for me).

As an aside, I love that Ridley Scott is doing that. I know it’s at least in part a financially motivated decision, but damn if it isn’t satisfying.

I think for sure that being held accountable early on would have either weeded them out and sent them back to wherever they hailed from  or made better non-harassing people out of them.

“ businesses knowing that there are financial consequences for harassment”

I think that in discourse about topics that are either illegal or that are controversial in some way, people become very adept at noticing and mimicing the language used to discuss that topic, even if they haven’t actually thought about their own beliefs and behavior with regard to the particular topic.

I 100% agree. That is a great point about Kirkman being worse off now than if she hadn’t spoken in the first place.

They ask why they couldn’t get anyone to go on the record with them - but then insinuate, without voluntary on the record direct quotes, that a victim said something to them that confirms their story?

I think there’s a certain extent to which they segregate out the part of themselves that represents their sex drive from their more “evolved” selves. Like, oh, of COURSE I just think about women as objects, that’s my sex drive brain, but I’d never ACT like they were just objects, unless, you know, I just couldn’t help

How about not greying people who gently criticize their tone on the subject?

Picture of Hiddlehips and a puppy made my morning, rest is trash!!!!

“I was fucked over many times by Jezebel and the Daily Beast. People saying I said things I didn’t say. If you want to choose not to believe me, great. But this is why women don’t talk about ANYTHING. So I’m done. The end.

agree. i read it with the subtextual tone of: well if you want good reporting from us you gotta GO ON RECORD LIKE WE WANTED YOU TO #WhenYoureReady #WedNeverForceYou

They also always promise that these guys are terrible and will get punished one day and they never do. Draper got to reach enlightenment and made more ads. Walter White got to save everybody and die on his own terms. In both cases we’re told these guys aren’t heroes and all the bad fans getting it wrong. And then

just . . . refuse to think about it?

Someone with a Mad Men DVD or Blu Ray check the commentary on the episode in which Peggy and Stan(?) get naked and work together in a hotel room. (Looked it up. Season four, episode six.) I remember the person on the commentary saying this “happened to a friend.”

yesssss. this post mortem article reads as Sour Butt Hurt Grapes 101.
