I’m really starting to get the feeling that maybe there’s a reason his wife divorced him...

I guess I don’t get how you can play the “we’re doing real journalism” card when the NY Times busted the story wide-open with 5 sources in what, a few weeks since the Weinstein stuff broke? And you’ve supposedly had it for years?

Also, calling victims out for not talking to you? “Doing what is right”? Are you serious? Calling Jen Kirkland a “disappointment” or, essentially, a liar? What the hell?

And they were smart enough to hold off on publishing until the rumors were substantiated.

I did not plug my ears. I did exactly what I said I would do.

People have the right to tell their own stories when they are ready to tell them. Reporting those stories without their permission, reporting them as rumors or “open secrets” is unfair to the victims and can even undermine their story when/if they’re ready to tell it. It may actually cause harm to the victims. Why

Yeah, but that’s not how journalism ethics works. The story had credibility but the reporting.... didn’t. No real sources, no real facts to report. I get that was incredibly frustrating for Jezebel (and the other ex-gawker sites), but that doesn’t give them a license to just keep stirring the pot publicly on the hopes

I will not condemn a man on rumor alone.

I respect the effort that you put into this and am really impressed with you sticking to this. I often, publicly and online, noted that I was reserving judgment because I didn’t get it. I was wrong. Thank you.

Here’s the simple fact: The Washington Post did journalism the right way, and Jezebel did not.

I know certain people are bashing you mercilessly Xanderpuss, but I get where you’re comments were coming from. As an abuse survivor myself, I still want proof, or official accusations before I go after someone - or assume they’re guilty because they “seem” sketchy. Like you said, now that people have come forward, I

After reading The NY Times article, I’m glad a journalist investigated the rumors.

Amidst all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, hopefully the AV Club commentariat will find it in their hearts to praise the courage of these brave women, who will now have to deal with a ton of flaming shit from every beardbro on the Internet in addition to whatever backlash they suffer in their careers. And that’s

Uh, there were no allegations (not even anonymous ones) on record and Kirkman denied her article was about LCK. And the origin of the story appeared to be a Gawker article.

If the rumors prove to be true no one at Jezebel gets to gloat. They were beyond reckless in how they handled (and continue to handle) this story. The NYT are the ones that put in the work to actually get to the truth, not just putting out a call for someone to do their jobs for them.

Or he could have shelved the movie. The fact that everyone went all on on doing this sends a message to rest of the predators out there - you’re replaceable. Good for them.

As a survivor of the Great Ponderosa Massacre of 1997, wherein the buffet where I worked discontinued free coffee for senior citizens, I wholeheartedly endorse this as the truth. Apparently, charging 50 cents for a bottomless cup of coffee is one bridge too far and entitles you to fling a full coffee cup at your

Loss aversion. It will be a rough transition, but things are bound to get easier once we get them used to it. People eventually get used to anything. No way out but through.
