That was one of the big problems with this piece. This guy, who probably pitched this piece because he wanted to re-use the reporting/sources he had from Holtzclaw’s college football career, thought he was doing something in the vein of “Serial” or “Making A Murderer.” But he never actually investigated the case or

Count the motherfucking clauses in that sentence. Forget the horrifying shit show that was the topic, any editor who let that damn clusterfuck out the door should be fired on the spot for that alone.

They’re Mardi Gras Indians, and they trace their cultural lineage back to the days when slaves and Native Americans made common cause. Their outfits loosely resemble Native American wear, but they come out of a long and in many ways distinct tradition. The Native Appropriations blog calls some elements of masking

I think they’re mad about the video. Because they’re big cry babies who think it’s racist to not want people to kill you.

I wish you were right, but I’m afraid my Blue Lives Matter white hillbilly relatives have indeed lost their damn minds about Beyoncé. Because Breitbart told them to, basically.

I’m old and often bored by the few videos I run across, but that one really is fabulous. Single Ladies was fun and minimalist and some of her other ones have been sexy, but all in all (in keeping with pop tradition) they seem intentionally vacant. Pretty, without much narrative or perspective.

Wow, are you actually trying to be condescending and oversimplistic? I don’t follow the writers here - I have no idea how old Kara is. But if she were 15, this would still be a pretty obnoxious thing to say. And chalking up a very real problem of the white fear of blackness that causes enormous ongoing suffering to

I’m whiter than chalk and generally ambivalent on Beyonce, and I thought the song was pretty good, the video was powerful, and her performance at the Super Bowl kicked ass. Unfortunately, I’ve had to explain why it’s not anti-cop and not “totally reverse racsim” to more than one equally white facebook friend though. :\

Your insight into their insight into other people’s thought processes is amazing Kara.

In following the thought processes here... Flying a Confederate flag isn’t racist. Denying an engaged lesbian couple a cake is defending your faith. A lion (you have no intention of eating for survival) is not a worthy living being, but a clump of cells is.

As a person previously ambivalent to Beyoncé, I enjoyed the song and the video immensely. If it’s *not your taste* that’s one thing. If it strikes fear into your white heart... I don’t know what to tell you.

Black women expressing love for themselves and black people in general is deemed as anti white among white people (I’m not even going to qualify that with some). Because screaming the racial epithets they would like to is uncouth, they instead make allusions to the police because recent events have turned police

Because she had the nerve to put “Stop killing us” on the wall while having police surrendering to an unarmed black child in the video.

Somehow this translated to some white folks as “anti- police”

Hearing stories like these makes it easier to understand how so many police incidences get out of control in America and how citizens end up dead. 7 guns drawn to alert a man he owes a small sum in anvient debt? That is unthinkable where I’m from.

But people get jailed for debts all the time now. Especially people of color. Debtor’s prison is a real thing again. Generally, the debts are to the state themselves, like for parking tickets and stuff, as a part of the school-to-prison pipeline, but they happen outside of a debt-to-the-state situation, too.

As a preface: I am a fairly well-educated person who is savvy enough understood my car loan situation perfectly (my mortgage less perfectly, but I get enough to know what questions to ask and who gets the check). That said, after college, I had a TON of trouble figuring out who I owed money to, and how much.

As usual, it’s worth noting that a recent Pentagon audits found that a single branch of the military (the Navy) couldn’t account for $418 billion of equipment. Or, in other terms, 280 million Akers (nearly the entire population of America).

I'm wondering what that dog is planning. He looks guilty.

Great, while we’re criminalizing poverty, let’s make sure to also criminalize people’s attempts to get out of poverty by -how else- taking on debt to the government. Ya that’s what government should be doing; getting its pound of flesh out of deadbeat students. I’m sure this all costs well over $1500, but come on; we
