I would have possibly let that slide (it was just so grotesque!), but the other visiting-American character in L,A is Billy Bob Thornton's lecherous president... So, yes. Richard Curtis: hack. This, however, is a pretty enjoyable read on the

Anyone know if there is a repeal effort underway?

Right with you in the HateTent. Yes, there are bits that are quite good (for me, the Bill Nighy plotline), but the sum total is hateful (which is my reaction to every single Richard Curtis film I've seen, come to think of it). Hated the tokenism, hated that only the plotlines with the two (relatively) older women

The trailer's not particularly good, and neither was Love Actually. #sorrynotsorry.

Contrast this with the story on Gawker (sorry, too lazy to link) about the (wealthy, white, male) 16-year-old who got off with a probation after killing four (yep, that's 4) people in a drunk-driving accident. Also in Texas, incidentally.

Her first husband is alive and well - Jim Threapleton, assistant director.

I want his job, errm, internship.

Same here; Texas + American football = moomintroll repellant. Persistent friends forced me to watch. What can I say? Such wow, much excellent, etc. (Season 2 blows, but I'm willing to overlook that.)

Leatherettes.

I can just about guarantee that it was not the same - Romania was a pretty significant outlier, compared with the rest of the Eastern Bloc. Family friends (a W. Eur./S. American couple) lived in Romania for a couple of years in the very early '80s, and then moved to the middle of nowhere in the Soviet Union (because

Mine, too. I had to look up the book to make sure it was the same Woody Guthrie.

Oh, very capable. Both Arundhati Roy and Erica Jong are past nominees.

Oooh, thank you!

Are there any film (or TV) Angela Carter adaptations? (And if not, why the heck not?)
