If I see an ad like this I usually don't bother even attempting to work with them for the reasons you stated.
The only part of your comment I’ll disagree with is limiting it to Americans. There are stupid people who don’t care how gaudy something is as long as it makes them look richer than they are all around the world, not just in the US.
I will preface this statement by noting that I totally agree that the grille is hideous.
A couple of times when I’ve marked through a phrase/clause to refuse it and initial beside the edit I’ve had people grab the contract, declare it broken or worthless, tear it up, and give me a new one with instructions to just sign it and don’t make any changes because it’s not legal to modify the contract, and if…
They are probably right. Americans, for example, love McMansions, luxury SUVs, chain restaurants, and watching dogshit TV. They have some of the worst taste and culture imaginable. Of course they want the big ugly car for morons.
That level of fine print BS tells you all you need to know. Don’t waste your time with that dealership. They probably have a bunch of other tricks lined up in case you call them out on the first one.
When I sign contracts I often will mark out items I do not find agreeable and have the sales guy/finance guy initial (this is on mostly industrial equipment). I’ve only had one guy balk, and got absolutely ape shit pissed. Just because it’s a contract written up by them doesn’t mean I can’t change terms.
I’m one of those guys who annoys people trying to get a stack of docs signed because I read everything. Invariably I’ll find something that doesn’t sound right. When I question it my favorite two responses - and the most frequent responses, by a huge margin - are: “Just ignore that because...
“If your not ....”. So they want to charge EXTRA for their crappy grammar?
Don’t the lines about life, liberty, due process, etc. specifically apply to what the government itself cannot do and not to contracts between employers/employees?
Do the Americans have a clause in their constitution that says “You can’t do forced arbitration yo?”
Forced arbitration should be illegal.
Yes. It’s called “due process” and means real government courts and lawyers and the ability to appeal.
