Dying for the idea of a better future is utterly meaningless until and unless that future actually materializes. Plus, the segment of society that does most of the dying usually reaps the least portion of the benefits.

The one comforting development in all this Trumpfuckery is the idea that Turtleman Mitch has soiled his legacy as Senate leader to the point that it resembles a dirty diaper. Trump has demonstrated his incompetency beyond any reasonable debate. Mitch , on the other hand, has demonstrated his willingness to do every

Is it just me or is there something jarring about an avowed flat-earther wearing a sweatshirt that says ‘TRUTH’?

Actually in the border states white people are stopped by CBP all the time, if they think there is any chance of catching them with even tiny/personal use amounts of drugs in their cars. Because that gives them meaningless statistical numbers to perpetuate the myth that they are ‘fighting crime’ along the border.

What evidence do you see supporting that belief? Much if not most of the world cannot afford to be concerned with anything beyond their own short-term survival, and the ones who can afford the luxury to view things in the long term repeatedly demonstrate their lack of interest in doing so.

I’d like to tell you you were dead wrong, and that people in general and Americans in particular were better than this. But, being a realist... I can’t.

Because our systems— legal, economic, political— have been mutated and corrupted to enable the desires of rich people above all other objectives, no matter how loathsome or stupid or narcissistic those people might prove themselves repeatedly to be. And the unspoken promise of those systems is that, if you’re willing

She’s still young. Give her time— it won’t take her long to become as clueless and narcissistic as the rest of her family. Her mom and stepdad are the embodiment of the belief that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

None so blind as those who will not see.

But the entire credit economy in this country is based on the illusion that “I can afford whatever somebody will lend me”.

That old thing? It has been rendered obsolete in the hysteria that followed in the wake of 9/11 and the passing of the Patriot Act.

They’re mostly concerned about putting up arrest numbers and funneling tax dollars to the private prison companies for whom these policies are an immense and largely unmonitored windfall.

They’re randomly setting up roadblocks all over west Texas and New Mexico, conducting warrantless searches (I’m pretty sure no illegal immigrants would fit in my glove compartment), and harassing Spanish-speaking people whose families have been LEGAL residents of the area for a century. And then they want to act all

Everybody knows that only Mexican wresting is real. Lucha libre!

That graphic could only be meaningful if you changed ‘days’ to ‘hours’ or ‘minutes’.

Isn’t this straight out of the dictator playbook-- declaring an emergency and using the military, or in this case the military budget, to implement policy he can’t accomplish through a legitimate legislative process?

The action may be real but the outcomes are usually predetermined in order to further an ongoing storyline. I have been having this discussion with wrestling fans for decades, and my go-to position is simply this— if it wasn’t orchestrated there would be a line on it in Vegas.

And you wonder why people think you’re an idiot.

The $25 billion they’d bring in... based on the best-case projections of Amazon’s hired consultants. ‘Nobody is handing anyone a $3 billion check’ is a meaningless deflection .

Hard to see any way in which the ability to form opinions has been of any benefit in big-picture terms.
