Believe it or not, most tech H-1Bs aren’t going to people because they’re cheaper than “domestic” engineers. Most companies pay these people just as much money, AND they’re more expensive to hire. .It’s for two reasons. The H1B is a great asset for the US in terms of snatching up bright persons from other countries. We want to take the best and brightest from other places and have them innovate here instead of there.

If a worker can’t cut it against an H-1B worker... then he/she doesn’t deserve the job. Polish your portfolio, get the tools to do the job (most are free, btw) and learn.
