LMP2 is definitely setup more like what IndyCar/CART used to be like, which is you can buy an engine, a chassis and go with a certain tire manufacturer and mix and match as you see fit. Still not what I would call a spec series when several different manufacturers are involved, it’s just different than a full works

It was a joke about all the wing, diffusers, angles, and vents....

Know what’s funny? Most of the internal combustion race cars make many of the same noises, because the loudest noise you’re hearing isn’t even the electric power plant, it’s the straight cut gears in the drivetrain. Internal combustion race cars make similar noises due to straight cut gears as well, but the engine is

Nope, I do too, I also prefer electric R/C cars to Nitro, so that could have something to do with it.

Yes, but this is based on huge changes to the cars, rather than evolutions under a reasonably static rule set.

I fancy myself a good driver, I can race a track and race it fast and I’d certainly consider myself better than 95% of drivers on the road. But whenever I watch someone like Tim O’Neil dance on snow in a Rallye Golf I realize just how inadequate of a driver I really am. I would never have the balls to do half of the

Really the problem can be fixed if you just pipe in a ton of eurobeat. Imagine all the close racing with this in the background. 1000% better.

I like the noises these things make. It sounds like the future. Or electric radio-controlled cars…which I also like.

Possibly because they are all the same, other than the paint?

I’m more fascinated by how the driver can probably hear how well their tires are gripping the track.

I would guess as long as it’s working a viscous lockup would be a bit better than the early mechanical system that VW/Audi was using in the 80s. I want to have more faith in modern electrical systems but combined with traction control software they can be very intrusive. That can make getting started, unstuck or going

I think the FormulaE folks should overlay this on the live audio: (yes, posted above also)

Thanks! That makes sense.

The Country and Ralllye both use a viscous coupling for their AWD, like the B3 Passat. The Audi 4000 / 5000 have an open / lockable differential.

80s AWD systems were quite unrefined compared to later systems and require a distinctly different driving style than something like a 90s Subaru Impreza would. A Subaru’s system allows it to be a lot more nimble when pushed on loose surfaces than an 80s Quattro which really requires you to work hard to get it to not

Am I the only person that actually LIKES the sound of the electrics? I mean its like some sci-fi racing noises going on there.

Rallye Golfs are awesome, but I was always more of a Golf Country kind of girl. They came in better colors.

Me when people ignore all the awesome close racing and focus solely on the noise:

If anything, you’re understating the magnitude of the improvement - a three second gain would have comfortably put Vandoorne on pole at Spa, instead of last. It’s bigger than the margin between the absolute best and absolute worst runners any given F1 weekend.
