Which is kind of weird because the 3000GT VR4 was ACTUALLY considered a breakthrough— there was real excitement over Mitsu bringing that (and the Stealth equivalent) over here.

It goes along with the general plan I have for my future (probably won’t happen, but a guy can dream) of importing a GTS-25T, and I could swear I saw an MR come across Japanese Classics.
You are correctly remembering it as being considered a secretary’s car.
When new, S13s were reasonably popular, but S14s weren’t. By the mid/late 90s when the S14 came out, most of the sporty fun entry/mid-level Japanese cars were 170-200 hp vs only 155 hp in the 240.
I already bought a Spec-R, though!
The kind that is probably right about what would happen if Nissan brought back the Silvia nameplate.
The sad truth is that nobody really cared all that much about the Supra until the F&F series put it on the map.
I remember that too. They didn’t get much attention in those days due to the anemic stock engine with 155 hp. Basically it was almost the same dimensions as the Supra, but with 70 less hp than the base supra. Yes, the 300zx was intended to be the Supra competitor, but it should have had at least 200 hp.
Miss the 240SX and wish you’d gotten on the bandwagon before it became a bandwagon? Let me introduce you to the modern-day interpretation of the 240sx:
How about an AWD, CVT-transmissioned commuter crossover called “Silvia”?
wow, that’s more money than an off lease CPO 228i which walks all over either.
From now on whenever people ask me what do I think of a car, I will always answer by saying it’s a bit whahh.
Better get one now and have it stored. Any decent example Spec R is going over $15k already in Japan, so $20k by the time it’s registered stateside. A good example with few mods is $20k+, a lower mileage one is $25k+, and a pure and unmodified one (if there is one) is $30k. Then add your own math on the total cost…
This needs more stars.
Me: “Oh, look, ma, someone did research with presentable proof to back them up instead of talking out their ass!”
Ma: “On Jalpnik?!?!?”
Me: “Well, it was a member of the Kinja.”
Ma: “Okay; that makes better sense.”
I really wouldn’t worry about an NA S15 being priced out of affordability. It might be a slightly different case for the Spec-R though.
Please, for the love of christ, keep the spotlight off these cars.
Shut. Up.
With the inevitable land grab on the R34, I’m hoping the fuckers overlook the Silvia for a good long time. Don’t remind them.
I am still sad that we never got the beautiful S15 here in the US.
“It’s rear-wheel drive and a bit medallion man and a bit whahh,” is how Hammond sums this car up, as a kind of throwback car to days of embarrassing,
