Yeah, though they seem to pushing the edges a bit. They showed the two trees with the spiderweb on them. Implying visually what they weren’t allowed to say.

Yeah, I’m glad this story is giving Miriel more agency.

It’s a bit like they took the books and Tolkien’s alternative notes and threw them in a giant blender and told a story from what came out. It’s not bad and has familiar elements but isn’t the books either.

Sounds like a question for a legal scholar and not me! They certainly seem to have sweeping access to a lot based on owning seemingly very little.

Because Bilbo and Gandalf’s swords are explicitly from Gondolin and thus part of the legendarium that they purchased. Same reason they can talk about Earendil. Did you forget?

Wish dot com? The site famous for absurdly cheap and inaccurately advertised items.

The Maeglin idea is cute, though I wonder if they’d be allowed to use him? I think Gondolin is part of what they own…

The Sylvan and Sindar are both Teleri elves originally, so they’d likely look similar.

He speaks Quenya. Though considering how broadly they are using Quenya I guess that could mean very little.

Which still contradicts all the “Tolkien wrote ME as strictly Northern European because it’s supposed to be British” sniveling.

Which “tales”? The imaginary ones in your head and not the ones he wrote?

Gondor is climatically Southern European. So I’m not sure what you’re babbling about. Also, as I said elsewhere, Tolkien explicitly described some of the Edain as “swarthy” so I’m not sure what you’re talking about there either.

I mean, Tolkien could be somewhat racist and he could have intended some of his characters (e.g. the “swarthy” people of Beor - Beren’s people) to be mixed race. Those are not mutually exclusive - especially given his age.

Isn’t it the opposite? Her giving up her voice makes it impossible to get the man and she only “wins” him when she gets it back.

I mean, I don’t find this particularly “Disney-esque,” but I do think they had to keep things somewhat conventional. Unfortunately, you probably can’t spend billions on a show that experimental.

Celeborn is Sindar or Silvan in most versions that make sense, so him being in Valinor now seems unlikely. She could meet him later, I guess?

I guess I just can’t imagine yelling in Latin during a moment of high emotion. Even if it could read it. But I’m not an elf so…. It’s not a deal-breaker for me, it just seemed indicative of the fact that they seem to be ignoring inter-elvish cultural differences. At least for this season. Maybe we’ll see more in the

Yeah, but Quenya fell out of common use, even among the Noldor. So it would be weird for him to use it casually. Also, the Silvan elves are kin to the Teleri as well and wouldn’t be any more overjoyed about the Kinslaying than Thingol was.

Arondir is supposed to be a Silvan elf.

It’s not about knowing Quenya though. Given the cultural history, he’d probably have an aversion to using it. At least I’d think so. But, like I said, I think they are understandably simplifying these elements. I can make my peace with it, I guess… I’m only lightly nerd-sulking.
