I guess it depends on which story you choose to tell? Because elves live so long, you’re talking about lots of time and lots of individual stories. Any of which could be the subject of a show. Like, you could probably do a whole show about the lead up and Fall of Numenor. Which is sad, but it leads directly to the

I have less than zero sympathy for the Feanorians to be honest. Not killing one specific set of children after you slaughtered a refugee camp, doesn’t seem like much in the way of atonement. And their guilt didn’t really stop them from persisting in their goals either.

I guess that’s what excited me about this. The outline of the stories Tolkien left seem wildly intriguing. Perfect set up for new writers to fill in. Like, you’re getting tell Elrond’s story? What was it like being raised by the sociopaths who murdered his people and kidnapped him and how does it affect him? How does

If the Phantom Menace was the last time you got fooled by a cool trailer, I admire your gifts of insight!

He didn’t direct Candyman, though. I think he was the producer, but not the director. The director was Nia Decosta

Alien invasion?

I mean, have you considered the Silmarillion? The theme is essentially elves tearing each other apart fighting over the last glimpse of divine beauty while “Satan” sits back and laughs at them and enjoys the beauty by himself. Elrond is kidnapped and raised by the elves who slaughtered his people and (he believes for

I bet we’re like 5 years away from another remake. It’ll just be chewing over the same nostalgia over and over …

Miranda not enjoying the honeymoon had nothing to do with being successful or a high achiever. You think successful people don’t take vacations?

So true. Women all just need to devote themselves to supportive domesticity! I’m so glad Miranda finally figured that out in her 50s!

It’s amplifying the heating-the-human-body effect which is the purpose of the heater.

I think that still serves the purpose of presenting them as harmless and buffoonish rather than terrifying and abusive.

Weird take. This writer was, if nothing else, quite good at keeping the characters consistent and telling a story that made sense within the context of the world the characters lived in. This show isn’t that.

Not really. For one, Che is not much more wealthy than Miranda.

I think the point is that this new show is bad in a way the previous show wasn’t.

You would think that Brady’s college goals would be an issue? Like, they could even have done something with Miranda going back to school while her son was prepping for college. It’s so weird.

To what end?

Little people are perfectly capable of turning a blind eye towards popular well-liked predators in their midst (e.g. coaches, pastors, family members, friends). That alone should make it a valuable lesson.

Yeah, I feel like we should be having that whole other conversation instead of talking about this very bad movie.

Probably? People read the 10 300-page volumes of Tolkien’s notes. The Silmarillion is an easy lift compared to that. Personally, there are bits of it I’ve still been unable to get through, but it’s not really a book you read cover-to-cover so…
