I have weirdly mixed feelings about this. It reads a lot like an academic turf war of sorts. Like, too bad Lawrence Wright picked a scholar to interview who’s so old and out of touch, or who isn’t on the same page as this other scholar. So much of academia involves really smart people picking the living daylights out

As an optimist I have to point out that intermittent Larson is better than no Larson.

Thanks for not making this a slideshow.

I would assume that the “possession of tools” charge is about them having those tools with them in a public space with the proven intent to commit vandalism or graffiti.

Left to right: Norma Shearer, Joan Fontaine, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goddard, and Mary Boland.

It doesn’t sound like his is, either. After all, he still bought the helmet.

You have to keep in mind that some of us come from an age where being into geeky shit got you bullied, whether emotionally or physically. That has changed quite a bit, but some of us still have residual emotional responses to that trauma.

I remember doing this as a kid, I thought it was the coolest thing ever! Cuz it’s EXACTLY what the blasters sound like, the didn’t need to modify it. *pew* *pew*

I did buy it, so I’m halfway there. Funny though to see someone telling another to just “stop X”, as if that was never a consideration. Like, “have you ever thought about not being embarrassed at that thing you’ve spent your entire formative years in the 80's learning from adults was embarrassing?” Thanks Mr... never

The story of the Star Wars sound is pretty interesting. I saw a really old documentary about it once. The people literally just went around everywhere recording anything and everything they could then tweaked it to fit their needs. There is one picture in the linked story without definition. They are standing next to

Huh...I have a toy Boba Fett helmet that makes those noises when you lower the scout sight. I never would have guessed that they were actually based off of semi-canon sounds.

I know I was a young guy in college, but for an entire summer I worked 2.5 full times jobs. 40 hours a week was spent working construction pouring concrete and building our new gymnasium. 40 hours a week I spent working at a ice cream place. Then I spent 14 hours a week working at a bakery. It was hell. I graduated

This could actually be a life saving device in certain applications.

More like a cool-swappable battery pack, and I’ll see myself out, thanks.

Shut up about the sun! SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!!

Strike that, reverse it. =D

She wasn’t terrified...she was entitled.

And this is why we want gun control in this country. Because there is no way that mentally unstable people should own guns.

If she hadn’t been carrying a gun, she wouldn’t have reached for a gun to solve a dispute. Guns don’t make anything better, they make people’s bad moments worse.

If you become so terrified during a VERBAL argument that you need to pull your gun out and point it at someone then you’re mentally unstable and should forfeit your right to every owning a gun legally again
