Maybe it’s like a tree, and it’s been growing constantly his whole life.

“young”

A+ username, both for allusion and for your comment.

I imagine it's not particularly common regardless of gender, but here's an example, also from Nigeria.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why can't people leave their babies at, say, hospitals covered under Safe Haven laws? What makes driving to one of these boxes so much more convenient than driving to a hospital?

Like Bobby Kennedy?

They're in middle school? Jeez, what am I doing with my life?

If male circumcision were banned (and bans have been proposed in some countries), it wouldn't be legal either. And obviously, lots of people (myself included) don't think it's a reasonable choice.

interesting how many women and uncut men are experts on foreskins

I focused on vaccination because vaccinations are the only one of those that's a medical choice. Obviously giving kids fast food is bad for their health, but I wouldn't call it a medical decision.

Okay, but listing them like that implies that they're medically comparable. I could just as easily say that male circumcision and female genital mutilation are both surgical modification of the genitals of children, but I wouldn't do that in a discussion like this, because it would imply they're comparable in terms of

Circumcision is in no way comparable to vaccination.

What kind of homoerotic fiction are people living in where boys are constantly checking each other's dicks out?

There's no way to compare circumcision, which may lower the rates of diseases which can be prevented by much less invasive means, with vaccinations. Every reputable medical organization in the world recognizes that vaccines are overwhelmingly beneficial. Non-therapeutic circumcision is controversial among doctors,

But the solution to that is better sexual education, not surgically attaching a condom to a kid's penis so that he won't get STDs when he's older (which is basically what circumcising children would be if done to prevent disease transmission).

I'm anti-circumcision too. But you made it seem like Jezebel commenters are completely unified in their opposition to circumcision, which is very obviously not the case.

Doesn't that speak more to circumcision not really being necessary? If having a foreskin were a huge problem, I think men would be willing to get circumcised voluntarily. Like how some women at a high risk for breast cancer get a preventative mastectomy, but most women aren't going to remove their breasts just because

I mean there are definitely people in these comments who are pro-circumcision. I don't think it's like a feminist conspiracy or anything, and feminists are probably more likely than the average non-feminist to oppose non-therapeutic circumcision of infants, but it's not like everyone here is against it.

There might be advantages, but I just don't believe that surgery is a better option than medicine and condoms. Also, presumably, if a guy is old enough to have sex, he's old enough to weigh the benefits and risks himself.

I don't think Jezebel is representative of feminists as a group.
