My commute in Los Angeles from Northridge to Burbank is 15 miles. It takes 20 minutes if there is no traffic. 1 hour in traffic. 1995 Mercedes E320. Quiet. Safe. Reliable. 22mpg in commuting traffic. Can be had for 1/10 the budget.

An older reliable luxury car is the answer.
I don’t know why someone is cutting onions nearby when i’m in my bedroom and the kitchen is all the way on the other side of the apartment,
Tell em Chris!
Yeah.
I saw the upgraded interior immediately. Plus euro lights, AMG bumper, updated wheels, rear spoiler. It smells a lot like a standard 5 speed 300E hurriedly dressed up to garner a better price.
You win the internet today.
He sucked most years he was racing in it. Overhyped.
So many varied and various ways to basically say “i’m a complete idiot.”
i agree with your measured approach.
Just wanted to point out that the Mercedes Benz W124 (300E/ E320 etc) debuted in 1984 and had a cD of .28 for the base models with no external passenger mirror and skinny 185/70R14 tires.
I was fucking off in my rental Vauxhall Insignia on the autobahn, in the left lane, maxed out in the high 130mph/ low 140s that the diesel is capable of, and there was car behind me. keeping pace, not pressing me to get out the hammer lane, but not exactly getting left behind either. I found an opportunity to get in…
Who let him (her?) unsupervised on the internet?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Loved the BMW 2002 since I was a wee lad of 3, maybe 4. Thanks to dad. Fast forward 16/ 17 years and i’ve just moved to a new cookie cutter neighbourhood, in a still new to me city, in a new country, on a completely different continent and hemisphere, oh, and my mums not married to my dad any longer, got a new bloke.
Hopefully it also comes with the brilliant diesel motor they get in Europe. 140mph capability (thank you autobahn for letting me test that out!) and 65 mpg in sedate driving.
I never understand why the American psyche gravitates to it’s own in this type of competition where they don’t stand a chance. Without just appreciating the athletes and performers who are already at the epoch of the sport.
No. But there is a ton of NIMBYism preventing that. And people are tired of the delays caused by construction of said mass transit.
I don’t ride for freedom and open air feeling. Nor for thrills or other whatnot. I ride for the practicality. And while I haven’t had any falls in traffic i’m ecstatic with the time savings I get every day.
It’s the sheer numbers dude. And the sheer number of idiots. And the sheer number of people on their phones (I ride a motorcycle and split lanes, I see it ALL the time.) or otherwise distracted.
Lifehack; motorcycle. Lane splitting is legal here. Takes me thirty minutes going to work in bumper to bumper traffic on the bike, while it takes *over an hour* in the same traffic by car. No traffic; 20 minutes.
