Except housing prices weren’t even a thought in this development project. They literally wanted to build their own, insular, billionaire tech bro community. It was never meant to help ease pressure on housing prices.

Yep, there are currently many projects around the world, mostly in the middle east, where billionaires are supposedly trying to plan and build future cities, but pretty much all of them are absolutely terrible ideas that any person with common sense can see, and are clearly just ego-driven projects so they can feel

I mean, the existing towns that surround this area (Fairfield,Suisun, Travis,Vacaville,Dixon,Rio Vista) aren’t super cheap already. Nothing built here would be substantially cheaper.

And took away how much food by shutting down farms?

Wealthy people with a vision using underhanded means to acquire their vision, you don’t say? It’s laughable that they think a small group of farmers are conspiring against their utopian vision...

We want to build a utopia!!! But first lets try to destroy these people’s lives because they refuse to give up their land.

Ah yes, laws. The natural enemy of tech bro billionaires.

As someone that has worked a bunch of development projects, the tech bro cities get incredibly annoying. A rich person’s ideal city is generally an exercise in weird architecture. Society’s ideal city is focusing how to save water, generate electricity, grow produce, resilient structures, and efficient public transit.

Andreessen recently published a manifesto about his vision for the future. I don’t know about you, but these days, when I see the word “manifesto,” I immediately think of news stories that begin with, “Neighbors described him as a strange, quiet man, and had often expressed concerns about him” and end with, “Before

Yeah never mind the million or so other reasons this will be tricky - good luck getting enough water.

It’s almost as if having easy access to venture capital doesn’t mean you’re a genius or know anything about how the world works.

Thought California Forever was being built in Austin Texas. All those rich Tech Trillionairs who couldn’t afford to pay taxes.

And also he’d have to go to the bank every week to cash it. Then to pay bills he’d have to go and pay cash for money orders at 7-11. otoh he's lying.

Unless the government is actually handing him a paper check for his pay, he’d have to have an account somewhere. The fact that one doesn’t show up makes me wonder what Caribbean island he banks with.

According to the bombshell report, Johnson “has never reported a checking or savings account in his name, nor in the name of his wife or any of his children,” and nor does he disclose any assets or stocks.

This. I am much more confident that Johnson is blatantly not disclosing his holdings for reasons that make sense only to him, rather than that he has no money.

I am flummoxed that the take here is that Johnson is somehow one of those “broke boys”, instead of some mixture of the evils of Republican loopholes (and competent exploitation thereof) and the torrent of improper disclosure (and other financial) scandals even Jez has been covering

This can be said for the vast majority of “off road” vehicles people drive.

There are some narrow Starbucks drive throughs that will be pretty treacherous.

Let’s be honest with ourselves though. The 15 people with more money than sense who will buy these monstrosities aren’t going to be taking them off-road. They’re doing it for the attention and the most serious road obstacle they will ever see will be speed bumps in mall parking lots.
