He wasn’t standby, he had to be home to work, and it was the last flight of that day, which is why the airline wanted the seat in the first place. Why are you wildly spectulating based on nothing when the facts have been widely reported?

Every passenger on that flight was offered $800 and a hotel, and all refused. And how do you “not get” that he didn’t want to take a later flight? When you go to the airport for your scheduled flight, do you treat it as a loosey-goosey affair, “maybe I’ll leave today or maybe I’ll leave tomorrow, whatever?”

This type of thoughtfulness is how I learned about something called “Ash Wednesday”.

That’s some horribly judgey, unsympathetic BS to say suicide is a selfish act. I’m not talking about this case in particular, which is clearly fucked up, but you just made a blanket statement about people who are ill and in so much pain that they don’t see another way out.
