Sometimes it gets hard to remember, but at the time, the gay representation in The Wire was a huge deal. It says a lot that things that were groundbreaking representation-wise even 10, 15 years ago seem archaic and quaint now.

It’s still a big deal to have a major character that is both gay and non white. There was a

Hughes comes out against the idea that Weinstein and Pitt should dominate a conversation about Jolie’s book, but does so by writing an article dominated by Weinstein and Pitt that barely mentions the book.

Weird to criticize how the media diminishes what Jolie wants to talk about by posting an article that diminishes what Jolie wants to talk about.

F grades are reserved for the true fiascos, something that is so wildly miscalculated and offensive that there might be perverse interest in watching it.

Look around you. No one gives an F anymore.....

It’s a stronger start than many of the “I don’t know anything about this IP but I have to reblog this post Deadline made on Twitter to meet my quota, so I half-ass read the Wikipedia page and here’s my 250- to 500-word hot take on it” articles that show up around here from time to time.

There have been 13 “official” ‌Doctors in the increasingly confusing world of

Is this where are are going with pop coverage? Make up a theory and report it as news? #The AV Club. Am I Finally getting this place?

Counterpoint - Antonoff co-wrote and produced “Norman F*cking Rockwell” with Lana Del Rey like 2 years ago, and it’s a career-defining triumph that everyone still loves.

Huh. I read this exact same article a few weeks ago. Aside from site-specific formatting, literally nothing is different. Do the editors know this article is copypasta from another website?

This weirdly reads like a mini-obituary and I don't like it.

if you wanted to be a little unfair and clickbait-y

It says something about the current state of the A.V. Club that when I saw the headline in my RSS feed, I assumed it was a typo for “main.”

I really do love AA Dowd’s quote from the AV Club review of Hereditary:

I think there’s some great writers still at the G/O sites, but there are some real duds that write almost like they’re unoriginal, semi-talented writers cribbing stories from elsewhere and adding pissy bites for sensationalism.

Agreed. That goes for some of the A.V. Club’s staff too, especially the two who wrote this article. Every Sam Barsanti piece sounds like he’s hungover on a Monday morning and couldn’t get his Starbucks.

Judging by AV Club’s commenters, the only worthwhile time spent consuming media is if it’s media you hate.

I just don’t see how anyone can tell it’s on Showtime, not Starz.

It’s not on Starz. It’s on Showtime like the original series. There’s no “who knows” about it. But you know, the AV Club doesn’t normally cover pop culture news so I understand how a mistake like that could happen.
