Is owning an older (70s-80s) 911 all it’s cracked up to be? Or is it more of a pain to keep these things running? I am trying to justify purchasing one that I will not be just a garage queen because I would worry too much about it breaking down.

No. I never liked the interior of the 4th gen Mustang. Talk about fisher-price plastics. Nothing you touched was soft and even the steering wheel wasn’t great to hold onto. Until the latest generation, I didn’t like being in a Mustang.

It is a car worth having but not at that price. Also, there are many more desirable motors that could have been swapped in there with more horsepower. Why a 302 with less than 250 hp?
